Just over a year ago I decided I needed a jump start on my writing, but I wasn’t ready to commit to a weekly class. Instead I found Kate Hopper’s MotherWords online course and it was the perfect fit. Not only could I write on my own time, in my own space, but I learned so much. And I was truly inspired. Kate’s lectures and writing exercises were the perfect catalysts to start my story.
I have a degree in fiction writing, but have had little experience with creative non-fiction, so this was the perfect place to start. The other women in the class were smart and supportive and their writings and comments really made my work stronger. By the end of the course I had a working outline, three large sections, and dozens of “short assignments.” I printed out her lectures and go back to them when I’m stuck.
And tonight she’s launching her book, Use Your Words: A Writing Guide for Mothers. I have to admit I haven’t gotten through it, but I can’t wait to dig in. Tonight she’ll be reading at the Loft at 7pm. I’ll be there. I wouldn’t miss it.
